Cathy Tran-Zwanetz Selects March Cause
Posted on March 25th, 2009 No comments
This time it was an instructor’s choice of charity and Ms. Cathy chose to donate to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another.
Crazy 88′s donation will be helping to fund cutting-edge research, drive change through advocacy, facilitate professional education, and provide programs and services to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.

The White Belt Competition Team shined as all Crazy 88 Competitors brought back at least one GOLD medal!
Everyone did very well (obviously) but to me, some of the highlights of the tournament were:
Tye Ryan Murphy moves himself up to the forefront of the White Belt Competition Team with a dominating performance in the Gi divisions. At the last Virginia NAGA, Tye was a guard-puller. This time, he was a top player – taking down and passing everyone he faced. He submitted 2 opponents with breadcutters, and won the other matches 7-0, 5-0, and 14-0 to take 2 divisions. He improves his record to 12-1 in 2 competitions and improves everyday with his professional work ethic.
Jason Smith Sr. came up to me on Friday and said he was nervous about competing in the 30+ due to the age difference (he usually competes in the 40+) and his elbow troubles. Then in true Crazy 88 fashion, he signed up for the Adult too…and WON IT!
Cathy Tran-Zwanetz or Ms. Cathy as the kids call her, has made remarkable progress. She went from NOT WANTING TO DO JIU-JITSU to THREATENING TO WALK OUT OF THE SCHOOL IF SHE HAD A MATCH OF THE DAY to WHITE BELT CHAMPION! Cathy dominated both her matches, passing into mount 2x per match, to win each 14-0. She was composed and looked like a veteran out there. It’s proof that every student can succeed out there with the proper training and work ethic!
