While it is true I said I would provide a points only match for Vanessa I thought we had settled this issue at the tournament so I'm not sure why it had to go to the internet. Problems and mistakes do happen at tournaments and I try my best to address each one personally. Which I believe I did in this case. Because our tournament started 5 minutes early I was not able to get to the match where Vanessa would be grappling to let the ref know of the special rules that should be applied. So, yes it was my fault and not the referee because the ref was following the rules and I didn't let him know of this rule change. I know we spoke about this and I spoke to Vanessa later to give her some words of encouragement and to apologize for not making it clear to the ref how her particular match should go. I also extended free registration to Vanessa for the next Good Fight tournament she participates in. I made a special rule change for a child competitor but unfortunately it didn't work out the way I thought it would. I'm sorry this discussion has to continue to go on because I thought we had settled it on a person-to-person basis. In any event, I know kids are pretty strong and usually bounce back from situations like this a lot faster than adults do. Usually, within 5 minutes kids are over it; and I'm sure Vanessa will have a fun time with her jiu jitsu training and have many tournaments that she will be able to particpate in. The offer still stand for Vanessa to compete at a Good Fight at no charge.

Rich,
I am glad to hear that you have had positive experiences with this organization; however the information presented is quite accurate. I registered my son in advance online. After speaking with the owner, Jim, in person that morning he said he would be able to provide a points only match for Vanessa, and to write POINTS ONLY at the top of her registration card, which I did in red letters. I would not have registered her without a prior guarantee of a points only match. Needless to say, he didn't let the table know and she was immediately submitted, stood up pronounced the winner, they immediately faced them back towards each other and gave the start signal within 10 seconds. It took about 20 seconds to choke her in the second match. I am sure The Good Fight organization appreciates your commitment to them, but Jim took full responsibility and even said it was his fault, and that she was supposed to have a points only match.

Our family started out in many of the Good Fight tournaments in the Beginner division. It has always been our experience that the beginner division has always been with submissions and they do not have a separate division without submissions. I find this info hard to believe as the Good Fight always are well run with highest regard to kids safety
