Our Year of Giving comes to a close with Dylan Rotosky choosing the final charity. Crazy 88 BJJ decided to donate $100 every month to a charity of one of our children’s choice to get them more involved about current issues. It has been a fun and informative program for all involved!

Founded in 1991, National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) extends women’s lives through education about breast cancer and early detection. The organization provides hope to women and families affected by breast cancer through a community of caring support and encouragement that enables those diagnosed with breast cancer to have fulfilling lives during their treatment and afterward. The Foundation exists to save lives by providing access to free and low-cost mammograms for those with limited resources, increased awareness through continuing education programs and online community support programs.

IEF is proud to have played a part in the reduction of the leading public health causes of blindness and has, in the last decade, worked harder to combat childhood blindness and the new threats highlighted by the World Health Organization in its December 16, 2004-released data on visual impairment. With your support we can continue to bring hope to the people of the world’s developing nations.

For July’s (belated) charitable donation, we let NAGA Champion Mason Hollis choose a cause.  Mason had quite a debut performance at the Battle at the Beach and has a good heart as well so Crazy 88 Jiu Jitsu is glad to support his charity.

Children’s Hunger Fund (CHF) works in some of the most needy regions in the world. In the slums of Guatemala, in the refugee villages in Northern Uganda, in the wake of disasters in Indonesia and Perú, and on the mean streets of America’s inner-cities, CHF earnestly seeks to provide for the needs of children and make lasting impact in their lives.

Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu’s Connor Tully has selected the Humane Society of Baltimore County for this month’s charitable donation.  Since its founding in 1927 by Elsie Seeger Barton, the Humane Society of Baltimore County has provided for the care of suffering and homeless animals. Situated on 365 acres of land held in trust for the Humane Society, it operates an animal shelter, a spay/neuter center, a memorial park, and a wildlife sanctuary.

Julius was ambushed by children asking for donations to the American Cancer Society so that became May 2009′s charity of choice.  Cancer sucks!!!

The Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF) designs and implements sustainable energy solutions to improve the health, education and economic well-being of rural communities in the developing world. SELF’s projects provide power for water pumping and drip irrigation, health clinics, schools, homes, streetlights, microenterprise and wireless Internet.

This month’s charitable donation was chosen by Jordan Tully.

Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu has partnered with Trees for the Future,  an agroforestry resource center helping people in developing countries improve their rural livelihoods through the introduction of environmentally sustainable land management projects focused on beneficial tree planting.

We will be donating a portion of all referral proceeds to this organization and continue to be involved as contributing member of the Howard County community.  This will be in addition to our current monthly effort to get our Tiny and Little Ninjas involved in current affairs.

This time it was an instructor’s choice of charity and Ms. Cathy chose to donate to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Multiple sclerosis (or MS) is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the central nervous system (CNS), which is made up of the brain, spinal cord, and optic nerves. Symptoms may be mild, such as numbness in the limbs, or severe, such as paralysis or loss of vision. The progress, severity, and specific symptoms of MS are unpredictable and vary from one person to another.

Crazy 88′s donation will be helping to fund cutting-edge research, drive change through advocacy, facilitate professional education, and provide programs and services to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward.

Environmental issues seem to be on the minds of our Kids as Madeline Donnelly chooses Conservation International to receive the February donation of $100.   The mission of Conservation International is to “conserve the Earth’s living heritage – our global biodiversity – and to demonstrate that human societies are able to live harmoniously with nature.”

Our kids have been learning a lot from researching and choosing their own charities and they started the year off right. Tyler Neal has chosen American Forests to receive Crazy 88′s monthly donation.  The vision of American Forests is “to have healthy forest ecosystems for every community.”
