  • Great White Belt In House Tournament

Posted on July 17th, 2010 admin 2 comments

Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu held another In House Competition for Team Lloyd Irvin White Belts – this one was with the Gi.  Over sixty grapplers from Ivey League MMA, Top Flight MMA, and Lloyd Irvin Martial Arts Academy (and about forty spectators) all made the trip to the mats of Elkridge, MD in order to get competition experience.  As a team, we make an effort to plan out our training and competition schedule to peak in June, the month of the World Championships so this was the opening ceremonies.   The tournament was run in a double-elimination format and seeded in order to give as many matches as possible to each grappler regardless of skill or size.  Everyone had a lot of fun and hopefully, gained some feedback about what they need to work on!

Special thanks to Stephanie Reitmeyer for the photos.  You can find more photos on the Crazy 88 BJJ Fanpage.

Posted on September 10th, 2008 admin No comments

Fred Ramie was kind enough to bring his Fort Meade squad to do a team vs. team competition at Crazy 88.  It was a lot of fun and we were even able to set up some good single matches for some of the extra grapplers.  Special recognition goes out to Chris Cochran from Fort Meade BJJ who had to wrestle twice when one of his teammates no-showed the event.

Division Winners - Heaviest to Lightest

Special thanks to Fred Ramie and Danny Ives who not only brought students from their individual academies but also were involved in the organization and running of the tournament. The mats had almost no downtime so we were able to run six full double-elimination tournaments in about 3 hours. All the participants were very sportsmanlike and got some good competitive experience.

    See You Next Time!

  • Great Turnout for White Belt Battle Royale

Posted on December 18th, 2007 admin No comments

We had over forty competitors show up for the first White Belt Battle Royale. Grapplers from Ft. Meade BJJ faced off against those from Crazy 88 in sixty individual matches! White Belts were divided into total beginners and more experienced fighters and each group was given different rules so that everyone was able to compete. There were a lot of good matches and everyone had a lot of fun.

We ended up doing very well, with quite a few of our teammates going undefeated for the day. More importantly, it was a great opportunity for the white belts to roll against people from another school in a semi-competitive environment and take an intermediate step towards competing.

  • Competitors Gain Experience at In-House Tournament

Posted on March 18th, 2006 admin No comments

Congratulations to Malcolm Vaughan, Karl Breitenbucher, Tobe Lunsford, and Rob Prall at Leo Dalla’s In- House Tournament. This was Karl, Malcolm, and Tobe’s first time competing but everyone fought tough. Rob winning his division and Tobe competing despite having returned to the United States only a week earlier were the highlights of the tournament.

Competing will speed up the learning process so let’s keep training and improving our skills! Next up – the PAN AMS!!!

  • Good Time at Leo Dalla’s In-House Tournament

Leo Dalla’s 1st In-House tournament was a great success with athletes coming from Lloyd Irvin’s, Evolve, Leo Dalla’s, and Jeff Ruth’s academies. From our place, Don Walter represented the Academy well, submitting his first opponent and having some close point battles with the other competitors.

In-house tournaments are a great way to get some “friendly” competition experience. Leo plans to have 2-3 of these types of tournaments next year so take advantage of them; you’ll be amazed at how much you can learn from getting in there, win or lose.
