Crazy 88 Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was asked by St Augustine School in Elkridge, MD to come in and run a Kids Self Defense Workshop for the day.  Each gym class was divided into three groups and the children were taught some basic Jiu Jitsu, Kickboxing, and Wrestling in the context of defending themselves.  Due to the effectiveness of the techniques taught, the instructors emphasized the importance of using these moves only when absolutely necessary. It was amazing to see how quickly the children were able to learn and perform the techniques shown.

  • Great Joint Workout with Top Flight Martial Arts

This Saturday, we had a joint Muay Thai Kickboxing workout session with our friends from Top Flight Martial Arts. Top Flight Martial Arts is the Lloyd Irvin affiliate in the Aberdeen area and is run by professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, Ron Stallings.  Ron just won his fight at the Gameness Fighting Championships by 2nd rd KO and had a few of his students getting ready for MMA smoker fights and so he brought them down to get some different training partners here.  It was great for our guys as well as we have a few guys getting ready for Muay Thai matches.

The smoker fights will be March 13th, the same weekend of the Copa America in the Tampa, FL area.  Crazy 88 will be sending a squad to both events!  Please talk to the staff if you would like more information on attending either event.

  • Muay Thai Smoker Fights Results

Posted on July 18th, 2009 admin No comments

Crazy 88′s second foray into Muay Thai kickboxing was this Saturday up at Cherry Hill, NJ. We had three competitors at the event, all fighting Muay Thai (there were amateur MMA fights as well).

First up was “Big” Joe Dressel who went out there and gave it his all.   Coach Jason stopped the match when Joe did not seem himself during the match.  It could have been a blow to the back of the head or simply fatigue but the result was not what we wanted.  These kind of experiences can end up being positive in the long run so its back to the training room for a remotivated Joe.

Our second competitor of the day was Zak Perret aka SWAT.  SWAT had the toughest task of the day, facing an opponent with four previous fights, including one at the Muay Thai Nationals.  This was SWAT’s Muay Thai debut but it did not look that way as he was not intimidated and came out to bang.  It was a back-and-forth match that ended up being called a DRAW (perhaps the most frustrating result for a fighter)!  Awesome job by SWAT as he really stepped up to the plate against a far more experienced opponent.

Last up was BIG Al Washington.  Big Al came out of the gate, throwing big bombs and big kicks.  Not many human beings can withstand blows from a man Big Al’s size and his opponent was not one of them as Big Al scored the early KO.

Great job guys!  You are leading the way for the other students who want to do Thai Boxing!
